I have always been interested in the idea of design for as long as I can remember. Through my education, I chose to study all things design, including Textiles GCSE, Fashion and Textiles A-Level to recently completing my degree in Textiles at Arts University Bournemouth. On this course, I was able to define the textiles path i wanted to chose and through lots of trail and testing, I decided I wanted to focus on print design, whilst still being knowledgable on all others things textiles such as stitch, fabric and CAD. Many of my projects were interior collections, designing wallpaper and tiles for commercial and domestic settings. Within my collections, I utilised my digital design skills, and printed wallpapers and fabrics, whist sill appreciation hand techniquesby screen and block printing many samples.
The Story Behind Evie Smith Designs
Although many of my collections are interior, I like to stay open and versatile by not cutting off the fashion element of textiles. I stay knowledgable with current fashion trends and movements, and find myself considering how my interior prints would look on a maximalist garment. whilst staying mindful of fashion trends, university showed me how important it is to always be creating sustainably. Therefore I keep a keen eye on materials going to waste, and exploring how I can upcycle items and use materials to their full potential.
